ADHD & Autism

If you think that you or a loved one may have ADHD or Autism then it is important to get the right support in place.

Getting that support can sometimes feel difficult and confusing. We are here to support you in getting your diagnosis and the help needed.

Step 1: If you think you may have ADHD/Autism then the first thing you should do is complete a screening tool. These are ready for you to print and complete below:

Step 2: Once you have completed the screening tool(s) you have two options for getting a diagnosis.

NHS Pathway

If you choose the NHS Pathway, you will be referred by your GP to the local provider. If you are an adult, this will be through the Devon Adult Autism & ADHD Service. If you are looking for a referral for child this will likely be through the Child & Family Health Service, or for mild ADHD this could be through the hospital.

Right to Choose

The wait list for the NHS pathway is long. To support with this, the NHS has been working with a number of providers to create the 'Right to Choose' pathway. This means you will choose from a list of providers to assess and diagnose you or your family member. Each provider will have their own set of referral forms. You or the patient will complete the relevant forms (which, for children - sometimes means asking the school to complete a form too).

You can find all the information about Right to Choose here.

Step 3: Once you have completed all the relevant forms, you should contact the GP practice who will support you in sending the referral.
