Healthy weight. Healthy Heart.

Making sure our hearts are as healthy as they can be is one of the best ways to keep well. A healthy heart can prevent existing health conditions from worsening or even stop us getting new conditions such as:

  • Hypertension
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • and reduce the risk of cardiac events (such as heart attacks)

How are we trying to help?

Our practices are piloting a new 'Healthy Weight. Healthy Heart' programme.

Patients that have a raised BMI (over 30) with no other health conditions and who are not eligible for an NHS Health Check will be invited to join a 6 week weight management programme.

These will be group sessions held within community settings and aim to support patients to maintain a healthy weight and keep their hearts healthy.

We know that getting and sticking to a healthy weight isn't always as simple as 'eating well' and 'moving more'. Our lives our busy and demanding and it can be really difficult to prioritise our health over everything else we manage through the day.

This programme supports patients wherever they are in their health journey and helps them to make realistic but meaningful changes to keep their hearts healthy.
