Cervical Screening Uptake

As practices, we know how important cervical screening is for preventing cervical cancer, but we also understand that not everyone finds it easy to attend their screening appointment.

That’s why we’re working on a new project to improve cervical screening uptake, especially among health inclusion groups—patients who may face additional barriers to accessing care. This includes people with learning disabilities, mental health needs, language barriers, or those who have had difficult healthcare experiences in the past.

Over the coming months, we’ll be looking at how we can make cervical screening more accessible, comfortable, and inclusive for all. This means offering reasonable adjustments where needed, improving how we communicate information about screening, and making sure patients are given clear choices and support. We’ll also be reviewing appointment availability, exploring different ways of inviting people, and working closely with local communities to better understand what’s getting in the way of screening—and how we can help.

Our aim is to make sure that every patient feels seen, heard, and supported when it comes to their cervical screening. If you have concerns, need extra support, or aren’t sure what’s involved, please don’t hesitate to contact your GP practice. We’re here to listen and work with you to make the process easier and more comfortable.
